Worksop Glass Factory to close in 2008
The Worksop Glass Factory, which produced the majority of milk bottles for the Co-operative Movement, is to close in October 2008. It was taken over by Rockware in 1988 and after that date made very few milk bottles. I worked there for 30 years and, as production planner, arranged for many millions of Co-op milks (of all sizes)to be produced. If I can be of any assistance with bottle lettering, manufacturing dates, etc. I am willing to help. I still haved some old hand written production records saved from the skip and dating back to 1933 when the works opened.

The charity has shown their appreciation by publishing an article on their website - click here for the full article.
August 2007 - our editor on the telly!
Viewers of ITV's daytime programme "This Morning" were treated to a lesson in collecting milk bottles on Wednesday 15th August when Milk Bottle News editor Paul Luke appeared on their screens. Paul took along 150 bottles which attracted much interest in the studio, not least from Eammon Holmes, and Paul Ross's interview was very objective with none of the usual mickey-taking that we have come to expect from the media.
Visits to this website skyrocketed, with the figure for the day nearly 7 times the normal daily average, as people came to find out more.

Corringham milk bottle meeting on Sunday June 24th 2007...
The meeting will be held from 10.00am to15.00pm at the Corringham Village Hall in Springhouse Road, Corringham, Essex, SS17 7LE (click here for a map). Anyone who wishes to book accommodation please contact me for further details, there is a Travel Inn close by. As usual any displays/sale bottles are all welcome and I also hope to be asking some members who have vintage milk floats/vans to bring them along as an extra point of interest. For anyone who wishes to come and view my collection on either the Saturday before the meeting or on the Sunday after the meeting, everyone is welcome. Any other questions please give me (Paul Luke) a call on 01375 679527 or drop me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For an additional point of interest we hope to have on display a few vintage milk floats/vans. These should include a Morrison, a 1967 Wales & Edwards three wheeler, a J type Morris and a Ford van. If any members know of any other vintage milk floats/vans in existence it would be great if you could let me know so I could speak to their owners and see if they would like to attend with theirs.
We will be supporting Little Havens Children's Hospice so you are welcome to donate a proportion/all of the money from any items you wish to enter into an auction. We will also be conducting a postal raffle for any members who cannot attend the meeting and money raised will go towards the charity.
